About Wangerooge Airport
Wangerooge Airport is the small island airfield serving Wangerooge, a car-free East Frisian island in Lower Saxony, Germany. Officially known as Verkehrslandeplatz Wangerooge, it provides the island's regular air link with the mainland through short scheduled flights from Harlesiel.
Located about 0.5 km southeast of the village centre, the airfield has a single compact passenger terminal and two runways, an 850 m asphalt runway and a 500 m grass runway. Scheduled island flights are operated with small aircraft and take only around five minutes across the Wadden Sea, independent of tides.
Because private cars are largely excluded from the island, onward travel from the airport is mainly on foot or by bicycle, with a bookable electric island shuttle available for accommodation, the beach promenade and other island destinations. The village centre is roughly a 10-minute walk away.
With a simple terminal, short check-in and direct access to the island's beaches and Wadden Sea landscape, the airport serves as a convenient gateway for holiday visitors to Wangerooge and the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park.
