About Uummannaq Heliport
Uummannaq Heliport is a small domestic heliport serving the town of Uummannaq on Uummannaq Island in the Avannaata municipality of northwestern Greenland. It is operated by the Greenland Airport Authority (Mittarfeqarfiit) and mainly handles Air Greenland helicopter services.
The heliport connects Uummannaq with Qaarsut Airport (JQA) on the Nuussuaq Peninsula across Uummannaq Fjord, where travellers continue by fixed-wing aircraft to destinations such as Nuuk. Helicopter flights between Uummannaq and Qaarsut take around 15 minutes, and settlement flights also link the heliport with villages including Ikerasak, Illorsuit, Niaqornat, Nuugaatsiaq, Saattut and Ukkusissat.
The landing area is located in the northeastern part of Uummannaq town, roughly 1 km from the centre. As a small heliport it has a single asphalt helipad and a compact terminal hall, with limited passenger facilities; most shops, accommodation and services are found nearby in the town.
Because of its central position, travellers can reach the town centre on foot or by a short taxi ride, making onward travel straightforward. Uummannaq Heliport therefore works as the practical air gateway for residents and visitors travelling to the Uummannaq Fjord area.
