About Aappilattoq Heliport

Aappilattoq Heliport is the air link for Aappilattoq, a small settlement in the Upernavik Archipelago in Avannaata municipality, northwestern Greenland. The heliport operates as a helistop, meaning it has no dedicated passenger terminal building, and is served by Air Greenland as part of the government-supported settlement helicopter network.

The settlement lies roughly 22 km northeast of Upernavik, the district's main town, on the northwestern tip of the island of the same name. Founded in 1805 and established as a trading station in 1850, Aappilattoq has long relied on sea and air links because there are no roads connecting the settlement with neighbouring communities.

Regular helicopter flights connect Aappilattoq with Upernavik in about 15 minutes, and from there passengers can continue to other destinations along Greenland's west coast. Within the settlement, travel is by foot along a simple local road, while boats, dog sledges and snowmobiles are used for regional and seasonal transport.

Facilities at the heliport are basic, and the settlement itself provides essential services including a shop, school, church and village hall. For visitors, the heliport is a practical gateway for reaching a remote Arctic community, with tourism opportunities such as dog-sledge day trips and kayak tours organised from Upernavik.
