About Narsarsuaq Airport
Narsarsuaq Airport is located in the Kujalleq municipality in southern Greenland, close to the settlement of Narsarsuaq. For decades it has served as the main air gateway to South Greenland, connecting the region with domestic routes and seasonal international services.
Built as a United States military airfield known as Bluie West One, construction began in July 1941 and the first aircraft landed in January 1942. After the Second World War the site developed into a civilian airport, and its roughly 1,830-metre runway made it one of the key fixed-wing gateways in southern Greenland.
The airport operates from a single compact passenger terminal with a cafeteria, a duty-free shop and a small tourism information office. It sits only about one kilometre from Narsarsuaq village, while boats from the nearby harbour link travellers to Qaqortoq, Narsaq, Qassiarsuk and other destinations around the region's fjords.
Following the opening of Qaqortoq Airport, fixed-wing services are being transferred away from Narsarsuaq, and the airport is transitioning to a heliport while continuing to support regional helicopter and general aviation activity.
