About Urzhar Airport
Urzhar Airport is a small regional airport serving the village of Urzhar, the administrative centre of Urzhar District in the Abai Region of eastern Kazakhstan. It operates as a domestic air gateway for this part of the country, with the IATA code UZR and ICAO code UASU.
Located about 5 km east of Urzhar village, the airport has a single concrete-and-asphalt runway measuring 2,100 metres. The runway was reconstructed and lengthened to accommodate modern regional aircraft, and scheduled services now connect the district with Almaty and Astana.
The airport is best known as an access point for Lake Alakol, a popular summer resort and health tourism destination located roughly 80–100 km away, with a driving time of about 1.5–2 hours. Taxis and buses provide onward travel from the airport to Urzhar village and the wider region.
Terminal facilities at the airport are limited, and most passenger services such as hotels, restaurants, banks and medical care are found in Urzhar village itself.
