About Tan Son Nhat International Airport

Tan Son Nhat International Airport is the largest and busiest airport in Vietnam and the primary gateway to Ho Chi Minh City and southern Vietnam. The airport traces its origins to the 1930s, when the French colonial government built a small airfield in the village of Tan Son Nhat, and it was later expanded before becoming a commercial airport after 1975.

Today the airport operates three passenger terminals: T1 and the newer T3 for domestic flights, and T2 for international traffic. Terminal 2 opened in 2007, while Terminal 3 was inaugurated in April 2025 to ease congestion and increase domestic capacity.

Located roughly 7 km from District 1, the airport is one of the closest major airports to its city centre in the region. Travelers can reach Ho Chi Minh City by public bus routes 109 and 152, metered taxis, ride-hailing services, private transfers and rental cars, with typical journeys of about 20 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Passenger facilities include duty-free shops, restaurants, cafés, lounges, free Wi-Fi, currency exchange, ATMs, luggage storage and accessibility services across the terminal complex, making it a convenient arrival and departure point for visitors to the region.
