About Takoradi Airport
Takoradi Airport is the main air gateway serving Sekondi-Takoradi and Ghana's Western Region. It operates as a joint civil-military airfield and handles scheduled domestic passenger flights, mainly between Takoradi and Accra on Africa World Airlines and PassionAir.
Located about 2 km from central Takoradi, the airport provides a convenient entry point for the city centre, the port and nearby coastal areas. Its single asphalt runway measures around 1,751 metres, and civil operations share the site with the Ghana Air Force base.
The airport has a long history dating back to its use as RAF Takoradi during the Second World War, when it served as an important staging and refuelling stop on the West African air route. Today it remains focused on domestic and regional connectivity, while plans for upgraded civil terminal facilities have been discussed.
Passengers can reach the city centre quickly by taxi, private transfer or rental car, and the small terminal keeps check-in, security and baggage reclaim close together for a straightforward travel experience.
