Simikot Airport is the main domestic gateway to Humla District in Karnali Province, serving the remote town of Simikot in far northwestern Nepal. It began operations in 1977 and has since provided the only scheduled air connection into one of Nepal's most isolated mountain regions.
Located at an elevation of about 2,818 metres, the airport operates a single asphalt runway of around 549 metres and a small passenger terminal. Because the district has no road link to the national highway network, flights remain the primary way for residents, pilgrims and trekkers to reach the area, usually via Nepalgunj.
The airport sits close to Simikot town centre, roughly two kilometres away, so onward travel to local guesthouses and trekking meeting points is short. It also functions as a gateway for visitors heading toward Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, the Limi Valley and Karnali River rafting routes.
Facilities are simple, reflecting the airport's remote setting, but recent improvements have upgraded the runway, terminal and apron areas to support reliable domestic operations in challenging high-altitude conditions.
