About Syangboche Airport
Syangboche Airport (SYH) is a small high-altitude STOL airstrip in the Khumbu region of Nepal, located within Sagarmatha National Park in Solukhumbu District. Sitting above Namche Bazaar at roughly 3,748 metres, it is the closest airstrip to Mount Everest and Everest Base Camp and serves mainly trekking and mountain access.
The airport is not licensed for scheduled commercial operations. Most movements are chartered helicopters and short take-off and landing aircraft, typically Pilatus Porter flights operating from Kathmandu or Lukla. Its single unpaved runway is about 405 metres long, and the site has only limited infrastructure.
Syangboche has no road access. Travelers reach the airstrip by chartered aircraft or by walking the steep trail from Namche Bazaar, which usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes. Because facilities at the airstrip are minimal, most food, accommodation and supplies are arranged in Namche Bazaar.
Despite its limited operations, Syangboche functions as a high-altitude gateway for Everest-region trekking and scenic flights, while Lukla provides the nearest scheduled-flight connection for the Khumbu area.
