Savissivik Heliport (SVR)

Savissivik Heliport is a small helicopter landing site serving Savissivik, a remote settlement on Meteorite Island in the Avannaata municipality of northern Greenland. It is the community's main connection for scheduled helicopter services operated by Air Greenland, linking Savissivik with Qaanaaq and Pituffik (Thule Air Base). The heliport lies within the settlement on the southwestern side of the village and consists of a compact asphalt landing area. Because Savissivik has no road connection to other towns, the helicopter is an essential link for passengers, supplies, and medical travel in this part of Melville Bay. Facilities are minimal and there is no large passenger terminal building, so travelers should expect a simple, weather-dependent operation rather than the services of a larger airport. Arrivals and departures are handled directly at the landing area. Travel within Savissivik is mostly on foot or by local transport, and longer journeys continue by helicopter, boat, or in winter by sled. Visitors should plan arrivals and onward arrangements in advance because schedules and operations in this remote region can be affected by weather.
