About Sapporo Okadama Airport

Sapporo Okadama Airport is a compact domestic airport serving the city of Sapporo and the wider Hokkaido region. The airfield was originally constructed between 1942 and 1944 as an Imperial Japanese Army airfield and later became a shared-use facility with scheduled commercial flights, and it continues to operate as a dual-use airport alongside the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

Located in Okadama-chō in Higashi-ku, roughly 6 km north of Sapporo Station, the airport offers a convenient city-side alternative to New Chitose Airport for regional travel. Its current passenger terminal opened in 1992 and consists of a single three-level building with check-in and arrivals on the first floor and the departure area on the second floor.

The airport mainly handles turboprop services to destinations across Hokkaido and northern Japan. Hokkaido Air System is based at the airport, with additional services from Fuji Dream Airlines and Toki Air, connecting Sapporo with cities such as Hakodate, Kushiro, Rishiri, Memanbetsu, Akita, and Niigata.

Because the airport sits inside the city, it is quick to reach. Airport shuttle buses take about 30 minutes to Sapporo Station, taxis take roughly 20 minutes, and local buses link the terminal to nearby subway stations on the Toho and Namboku lines.
