About Yonago Kitaro Airport
Yonago Kitaro Airport is a joint civil and military airport serving Yonago, Sakaiminato and the wider San'in region of western Tottori and eastern Shimane Prefectures. The civil airport shares its facilities and runway with JASDF Miho Air Base and is located in Sakaiminato, roughly 11 km northwest of central Yonago.
The site began as a military airfield during the Second World War. A passenger terminal was added in 1956, scheduled flights to Osaka started in 1958, and services to Tokyo Haneda followed in 1964. The airport later adopted the Kitaro name as a tourism nickname after the manga character created by local-born artist Shigeru Mizuki.
Today the airport offers domestic connections to Tokyo Haneda and international links to destinations such as Seoul, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taiwan, making it an important regional gateway for business and leisure travelers.
Passengers can reach the terminal by car or taxi, and JR Sakai Line trains stop at Yonago Airport Station close to the terminal. Airport buses also connect to Yonago Station and Matsue Station, providing onward travel to the region's coastal towns, Daisen and other destinations.
