Kumejima Airport (UEO)

Kumejima Airport is the main air gateway to Kume Island, one of Okinawa Prefecture's outlying islands, and connects the island with Naha on Okinawa's main island. Built in 1963 and opened to civilian flights in 1965, the airport was expanded and its runway extended to 2,000 metres in 1997 to accommodate jet aircraft.

The airport operates a single passenger terminal with three above-ground floors and one basement level. Domestic flights by Japan Transocean Air and Ryukyu Air Commuter link Kumejima with Naha Airport in about 35–40 minutes. The first floor contains the check-in, arrival and most passenger facilities; the second floor has a gallery and café; and the third floor provides an observation deck with sea views.

Located in the Kitahara area of Kumejima town, the airport is about 11 km from the main town centre, with car and taxi journeys usually taking around 10–15 minutes. Free parking for about 379 vehicles is available, and the town bus and taxis serve the terminal.

Passenger facilities include shops, a restaurant and café, rental car counters, a tourist information centre, a kids' room, nursing rooms, coin lockers and an observation deck, making the airport a convenient entry point for visitors exploring Kume Island.
