About Nong Khang Airport
Nong Khang Airport is the main airport serving Sam Neua, the capital of Houaphanh Province in northeastern Laos. Opened in May 2023, it replaced the older Nathong Airport and now handles the province's scheduled domestic air services.
The airport was built to ICAO Category 3C standards, with a single 2,400-metre runway and a two-storey passenger terminal covering about 3,288 square metres. It can accommodate 70- to 100-seat aircraft such as the ATR 72, Fokker 70, Fokker 100 and MA-60.
Located about 35 km north of central Sam Neua, the airport is connected to the town by road. Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway operate domestic flights between Nong Khang Airport and Vientiane, reducing a journey that once took around two days by land to roughly one hour by air.
With its modern terminal and onward road links, the airport provides a practical gateway for travelers visiting Sam Neua, Vieng Xai and other parts of Houaphanh Province.
