About Attapeu International Airport
Attapeu International Airport is the airport serving Attapeu town and Attapeu Province in southern Laos. Opened on 30 May 2015, it was built to improve air links for the province and the wider southern region, with funding arranged through a soft loan from Vietnam's Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company.
The airport is located in Saysetha district along Route 18B, about 28 km from Attapeu town. It has a single asphalt runway of 1,850 metres by 30 metres and a terminal of approximately 4,300 square metres, designed to handle aircraft such as the ATR 72, Fokker 70, Fokker 100 and MA-60.
Lao Airlines began twice-weekly flights from Vientiane via Pakse in April 2016 and later increased the frequency, but the route ended in October 2016 because of low passenger numbers. The airport was closed to scheduled commercial operations in early 2017.
As a result, scheduled passenger services are currently suspended, and travel to Attapeu and nearby provinces is normally made by road. The airport remains part of the province's transport infrastructure, with its runway and terminal available for limited aviation activity.
