Savannakhet Airport is a small international airport serving Kaysone Phomvihane, the capital of Savannakhet province in south-central Laos. It provides a convenient air link between central Laos and Vientiane, with limited international connections for the wider region.
The airport was originally built as a military airfield in the 1950s and was later upgraded with international assistance. After a period of closure in the mid-2000s, scheduled services resumed and the airport now operates from a compact single terminal with separate domestic and international areas.
Located about 2 km from the city centre, Savannakhet Airport is one of the closest airports to its city in Laos. The short journey to town is usually made by taxi or tuk-tuk, making the airport a practical gateway for visitors to the Mekong riverside and the Thai border crossing at Mukdahan.
