About Xieng Khouang Airport
Xieng Khouang Airport is the main gateway to Phonsavan and Xieng Khouang province in northern Laos. Also known as Thong Hai Hin Airport, it primarily connects travelers with domestic flights to and from Vientiane, operated by Lao Airlines and Lao Skyway.
Located about 4 km from central Phonsavan, the airport serves as the main access point for the Plain of Jars, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has a single asphalt runway and one compact passenger terminal. After a year of renovation, it reopened in June 2025 with upgraded passenger facilities, runway lighting, radar equipment and security screening.
Since 2020 the airport has been administered by the Lao People's Liberation Army Air Force while continuing to support public civil aviation. Its small scale allows a quick check-in process and a straightforward arrivals flow.
Travelers can continue into Phonsavan by taxi, tuk-tuk or pre-arranged transfer, then arrange road transport to the Plain of Jars and other sites across the province.
