Rioamarillo Airport, also known as Copán Ruinas Airport, is a small regional airport serving the town of Copán Ruinas and the wider Copán Department in western Honduras. The airport opened in 2015 to improve access to the Copán Mayan archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the country's most significant cultural attractions.
Located in the Río Amarillo area of Santa Rita, approximately 20 kilometres east of Copán Ruinas, the airport has a single runway of about 1,400 metres and one small passenger terminal. It was designed primarily for domestic flights, private aviation and regional services.
Recent government announcements outline plans to reactivate the airport, with CM Airlines proposing connections from Copán to Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula and Guatemala. Until regular schedules expand, the facility mainly supports private and charter flights.
