About Palmerola International Airport
Palmerola International Airport is the main international airport serving Tegucigalpa and central Honduras. It opened to commercial flights in December 2021, taking over much of the international traffic previously handled by Toncontín Airport in the capital.
Located about 6 km south of Comayagua and roughly 70 km northwest of Tegucigalpa, the airport sits alongside Soto Cano Air Base. Its single passenger terminal covers around 40,000 m² across three levels and includes 13 boarding gates, 40 check-in counters, self-service kiosks and modern immigration facilities.
Road access is via the CA-5 highway, with typical journeys of about 15–20 minutes to Comayagua and 60–90 minutes to Tegucigalpa depending on traffic. Taxis, private transfers, buses and rental cars provide onward connections to the region.
