About Reales Tamarindos Airport
Reales Tamarindos Airport is a former commercial airport serving Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí Province in western Ecuador. It operated for around 80 years before scheduled passenger activity at the site ended in December 2011.
Located about 2–3 km from central Portoviejo, the airport once offered convenient access to the city and surrounding coastal areas. After its closure, scheduled air travel for the province shifted mainly to Eloy Alfaro International Airport in Manta, with onward road connections to Portoviejo.
The former runway and terminal facilities are no longer used for regular passenger flights. Travelers heading to Portoviejo and nearby destinations such as Crucita generally arrive through operating regional airports and continue by taxi, bus, private transfer or rental car.
Although PVO does not handle current airline services, its central location remains a useful reference point for planning road travel around Portoviejo and Manabí Province.
