About Ramstein Air Base
Ramstein Air Base is a United States Air Force installation in Rhineland-Palatinate that serves as headquarters for U.S. Air Forces in Europe and NATO Allied Air Command. The base opened in 1953 and has grown into one of the largest American military communities outside the United States.
Located west of Kaiserslautern near the towns of Ramstein-Miesenbach and Landstuhl, the base handles military and Space-A passenger movements through its Air Mobility Command passenger terminal rather than commercial airline terminals. It supports military airlift, logistics and transatlantic connections for service members and their families.
The base sits close to the A6 motorway and has nearby rail stations, bus services, taxis and private transfer options, making onward travel to Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl and the wider region relatively straightforward.
