About Plovdiv International Airport
Plovdiv International Airport is the main airport serving Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-largest city, and the surrounding southern region. Located in Krumovo about 12 km southeast of the city centre, it functions as a compact international gateway for both leisure and business travel.
The airport's civil aviation history dates back to test flights in 1928, and operations later moved to the current Krumovo site in the early 1980s. A modern single passenger terminal opened in July 2009, replacing older infrastructure and providing ten check-in desks and three boarding gates.
PDV is particularly important as the closest airport to the Rhodope Mountains and popular ski resorts such as Pamporovo, Borovets and Bansko. It handles scheduled low-cost flights and seasonal winter charter traffic, and sometimes serves as an alternate for Sofia Airport about 150 km away.
The airport is reached by road via the Plovdiv–Asenovgrad highway, with taxis and pre-arranged private transfers providing the most direct connections to the city in around 15–20 minutes. Passenger facilities include a café, shop, duty-free outlet, business lounge, free Wi-Fi and on-site parking.
