About Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport

Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport is the main international airport serving Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, and the wider Akmola region. It is the second-busiest air hub in the country and connects the capital with domestic destinations and international routes across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The airport's history reaches back to the early 1930s, and its facilities have been expanded in stages as Astana grew into a modern capital. The domestic terminal, designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa, opened in 2005, while a dedicated international terminal was completed in 2017. Passenger services are organised between Terminal 1 for international flights and Terminal 2 for domestic flights, with a separate area for business aviation.

Located about 17 kilometres southeast of central Astana, the airport is connected to the city by public buses, taxis, private transfers and rental cars. Travel times to the centre vary depending on traffic and route.

Travellers can use restaurants, cafés, shops, business and VIP lounges, a mother and child room, luggage storage, currency exchange, ATMs and other passenger services throughout the terminal complex.
