About Na San Airport
Na San Airport is a former domestic airfield in Son La Province, in Vietnam's Northwest region. Built in 1950 by French forces as a military outpost, it later handled civilian flights, including services to Hanoi during the 1960s.
The airport lies in Mai Son District, about 20 km south of Son La city and adjacent to National Highway 6. It has been closed to scheduled passenger services since 2004, and the site currently retains its runway and older infrastructure rather than an active commercial terminal.
Vietnamese authorities and Son La province are planning to redevelop the airport to 4C standards, with a new terminal and extended runway. Targets include around one million passengers per year by 2030 and two million by 2050.
Road access along National Highway 6 remains the main link between the airport area, Son La city and destinations such as Moc Chau. Travelers in the region rely on private transfers, buses, taxis, chauffeur services and rental cars while redevelopment is underway.
