About Myrhorod Air Base
Myrhorod Air Base is a Ukrainian Air Force military airfield located about 5 km southeast of Myrhorod in Poltava Oblast, central Ukraine. The base serves as an operational aviation installation for the region rather than a public passenger airport.
During the Second World War the airfield was used by the United States Eighth and Fifteenth Air Forces for Operation Frantic shuttle bombing missions between June and September 1944, when it was designated USAAF Station 561. After the war the site was rebuilt and developed as a Soviet Air Forces base.
Today the airfield has a single concrete runway oriented 04/22 with a length of approximately 2,500 metres, together with military parking aprons and hangar facilities. Until the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine the base hosted the 831st Tactical Aviation Brigade operating Sukhoi Su-27 aircraft.
Myrhorod lies about 100 km northwest of Poltava and roughly 225 km east of Kyiv, with regional road links connecting the town to surrounding central Ukraine. As a military installation, the base does not provide public terminal services; nearby Myrhorod town offers accommodation, dining and onward travel options.
