About Munich Airport
Munich Airport is the main international airport serving Munich and the surrounding Bavarian region. Opened in 1992 to replace the former Munich-Riem Airport, it has grown into one of Germany's busiest aviation hubs and a major base for Lufthansa and Star Alliance carriers. Located about 28 km northeast of central Munich, the airport provides domestic, European and intercontinental connections for leisure and business travellers. Its two passenger terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, along with a satellite terminal, handle arrivals, departures and transfer traffic across a compact airport campus. The airport is connected to Munich by S-Bahn lines S1 and S8, regional services from the airport railway station, buses, taxis, private transfers and road links, making onward travel to the city centre and surrounding areas relatively straightforward. Passenger facilities include shopping, dining, lounges, Wi-Fi, charging points and accessibility services, and the airport functions as a key gateway for visitors travelling to Munich, the Bavarian Alps and other parts of southern Germany.
