About Monbetsu Airport
Monbetsu Airport is a regional airport serving Monbetsu, a city on the Sea of Okhotsk coast in northeastern Hokkaido, Japan. Also known as Okhotsk-Monbetsu Airport, it acts as a compact air gateway to the Okhotsk region, which is known for drift ice, seafood and coastal sightseeing.
The airport opened in July 1966 as a general aviation facility and later expanded its runway to accommodate scheduled jet services, with the current passenger terminal opening in November 1999. Today it handles scheduled domestic flights between Monbetsu and Tokyo Haneda, operated by ANA.
The single two-storey terminal building covers about 1,993 square metres and is located approximately 7 km southeast of the Monbetsu city centre, a drive of around 15 minutes. Free shuttle buses link the airport with the Monbetsu Bus Terminal, and a reservation-based shuttle serves Engaru.
Passengers can also use taxis, rental cars and free parking. Facilities include a shop and café, coin lockers, free Wi-Fi, charging points and a free observation deck, making the airport a convenient starting point for exploring Monbetsu and the surrounding Okhotsk area.
