About Maio Airport
Maio Airport is the only airport on the island of Maio, one of Cape Verde's quieter and flatter islands. Opened in 2005 and operated by VINCI Airports since July 2023, it serves as the island's air link to the rest of the country through domestic inter-island flights, with regular connections to Praia on Santiago.
The airport sits about 3 km north of Vila do Maio, also known as Porto Inglês, the island's main settlement. Its single runway measures 1,200 metres in length and 30 metres in width, and the airfield can accommodate two ATR72 aircraft per operation. A compact, single-storey terminal handles check-in, security, arrivals and baggage services in one building.
Because the airport is small and close to town, onward travel is straightforward. Travellers can reach Vila do Maio and nearby coastal areas by taxi, shared local transport, private transfer or rental car.
Maio is known for its quiet golden-sand beaches and relaxed pace, and the airport provides a simple arrival point for visitors heading to beach stays and exploring the island.
