Cesária Évora International Airport (VXE)

Cesária Évora International Airport is the airport serving the island of São Vicente and the main entry point for travellers visiting Mindelo, Cape Verde's second largest city. Originally opened in 1960 as São Pedro Airport, it was later renamed in honour of the celebrated Cape Verdean singer Cesária Évora.

Located next to the village of São Pedro in the valley of Ribeira de São Pedro, the airport sits about 5 km southwest of central Mindelo. It handles a mix of domestic inter-island flights and international connections, including services to Lisbon and seasonal European destinations, through a single passenger terminal.

Its 2,000-metre runway accommodates smaller and medium-sized aircraft, while the compact terminal is designed to serve both domestic and international travellers. The airport is managed by Cabo Verde Airports and supports arrivals, departures and ground transportation for the island.

Travellers can reach Mindelo by taxi, private transfer or rental car, with the journey to the city centre typically taking around 10 to 20 minutes. With cafés, shops, Wi-Fi and seating areas on site, the airport provides a convenient gateway to São Vicente and onward travel across the Cape Verde islands.
