About Lalibela Airport
Lalibela Airport is a small domestic airport serving the historic town of Lalibela in the Amhara Region of northern Ethiopia. It is the main air gateway for travellers visiting Lalibela's famous rock-hewn churches, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The airport sits at an elevation of around 1,958 metres and has a single asphalt runway. Its main runway was rebuilt in 1997, and the compact terminal is designed to handle a limited number of passenger flights, with Ethiopian Airlines operating the main domestic route to and from Addis Ababa.
Located roughly 10 km from Lalibela town centre, the airport is reached by taxi, shared minibus or hotel shuttle, with the drive normally taking around 20 to 30 minutes depending on road conditions.
Despite its small size, the airport provides basic waiting areas, small refreshment options and parking, making it a convenient entry point for exploring the churches and the surrounding highlands.
