About Semera Airport
Semera Airport is a small regional airport serving Semera, the capital of the Afar Region in northeastern Ethiopia. It provides a domestic air link between the Afar Region and Addis Ababa, with Ethiopian Airlines operating scheduled flights between Semera and Bole International Airport.
The airport underwent renovation and expansion before being inaugurated in December 2017 as Sultan Alimirah Hanfare International Airport. The works included paving the former gravel runway and adding a passenger terminal complex, improving access for travelers and supporting the region's connections with Ethiopia's wider transport network.
Located on the west side of Semera, roughly 3 km from the city centre, the airport is reached by road, with taxis and private transfers providing onward travel to the city and surrounding areas.
