About La Laguna Airport
La Laguna Airport (GJA) is the only airport serving Guanaja, the most easterly and one of the most peaceful of Honduras' Bay Islands. Situated roughly 70 km off the mainland coast, it provides the island's main air link through short regional flights to La Ceiba and neighbouring Roatán.
The airport has a single asphalt runway and one compact terminal that handles domestic services. Because Guanaja has almost no roads, the journey does not end at the terminal: water taxis and hotel launches meet arriving flights at the airport dock and carry passengers to Bonacca Town, Mangrove Bight and the island's dive resorts and lodges.
Bonacca, the island's main settlement, lies about 5 km from the airport by water, with typical boat transfers taking around 15 to 25 minutes depending on sea conditions and the final destination. Passenger facilities are modest, with a small waiting area, light refreshments and restrooms rather than large commercial amenities.
Despite its simple infrastructure, the airport is an essential lifeline for residents, visitors and supplies, and the short flight over the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef offers a scenic arrival to this quiet Caribbean destination.
