La Esperanza Airport (LEZ)

La Esperanza Airport is a small regional airfield serving the twin cities of La Esperanza and Intibucá in the Intibucá Department of western Honduras. Situated at about 1,674 metres above sea level, it provides access to one of Honduras' highest and coolest highland regions and mainly handles general aviation, government and charter flights rather than scheduled commercial services.

Located about 1.6 km south of the La Esperanza city centre, the airfield has a single unpaved runway and a basic terminal with waiting areas and restrooms. Because of its small scale and high-altitude setting, operations are typically limited to daylight hours and favourable weather.

For scheduled connections, travellers generally use Palmerola International Airport near Comayagua or Toncontín International Airport in Tegucigalpa, both reached by road through the mountains. Movement from the airfield itself is usually by taxi or pre-arranged private transfer.

Despite its limited commercial role, the airport remains an important link for the Lenca highland communities and regional travel, offering a direct and quiet entry point for private and chartered flights into western Honduras.
