Kavala Alexander the Great International Airport (KVA)

Kavala Alexander the Great International Airport is the main air gateway to the city of Kavala and the wider Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region. It opened at its current site near Chrysoupoli on 12 October 1981, gained international status in 1987, and saw a new passenger terminal completed in 1992. The airport serves scheduled domestic flights and seasonal international routes, and it is also a convenient entry point for travellers heading to Thassos via the nearby port of Keramoti. Since 2017 it has been operated by Fraport Greece, which expanded the single passenger terminal by 2,029 m² and modernised its check-in, screening and departure areas. Located about 30 km east of Kavala city centre, the airport is reached by KTEL buses, taxis, private transfers, rental cars and the Egnatia Odos road network. Its compact single-terminal layout keeps walking distances short and makes onward travel to Kavala, Xanthi, Drama and the coast straightforward. Passenger facilities include cafés, a duty-free shop, a business lounge, free Wi-Fi, car rental desks, parking and accessibility services, supporting both leisure and business travel through northern Greece.
