About Juba International Airport
Juba International Airport is the primary international airport serving Juba, the capital of South Sudan, and the wider Central Equatoria region. It handles domestic, regional and international flights and is the country's main air gateway.
Located on the northern edge of Juba, the airport sits only a few kilometres from the city centre. The first airfield was cleared in 1929, and a new Chinese-built passenger terminal opened in October 2018 to replace the older, cramped facilities. The airport remains a joint civilian and military airfield with a single runway.
The airport is reached from central Juba by taxi, hotel or private transfer, rental car and other road transport, with typical driving times of around 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic.
Passenger facilities include a VIP lounge, immigration and customs services, and basic waiting areas, although dining and shopping options remain more limited than at larger international airports. As South Sudan's main air gateway, it connects Juba with key cities in East Africa and beyond.
