About Ishurdi Airport
Ishurdi Airport is a small domestic airport serving Pabna, Natore and the wider Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh. Built during the Second World War as the HIJLI Base Area and used by the Twentieth Air Force, it later developed into a regional air link for the area.
The airport is located at Lalpur Upazila in Natore District, close to the boundary with Ishwardi Upazila in Pabna District, around 27 km northwest of Pabna city. Pakistan International Airlines operated the first passenger flight in 1962, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines ran regular services to Dhaka until 1989. United Airways briefly resumed Dhaka flights in 2013 before scheduled operations were suspended again in 2014.
Today, scheduled passenger services remain suspended, while the Bangladesh Air Force, Army, Navy, helicopters and light aircraft continue to use the airfield. The site includes a single runway of about 1,433 metres, a small terminal building, passenger and VIP lounges, waiting areas and car parking.
Plans are in place to revive the airport by around 2030 for domestic passenger and cargo flights, partly to support the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Ishwardi EPZ. Its position makes it a practical gateway for Pabna, Natore and Kushtia.
