About Shah Makhdum Airport
Shah Makhdum Airport is the main domestic airport serving Rajshahi, the principal city of Rajshahi Division in north-western Bangladesh. It is located at Nowhata, about 10 km north of the city centre beside the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway, and is named after the Sufi saint Shah Makhdum Rupos.
The airport began operations in 1984 and was closed in 2007 before reopening in 2015. It now handles scheduled domestic flights, mainly to Dhaka, operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines, alongside pilot training schools and domestic cargo operations.
The airport operates through a single passenger terminal, and a modernization programme is underway to expand the terminal, check-in area and runway as Rajshahi's role as a regional gateway grows.
For travelers, the terminal offers an air-conditioned waiting lounge, free Wi-Fi, a canteen, flight information announcements, a prayer room and a smoking zone.
