Hof-Plauen Airport (HOQ)

Hof-Plauen Airport is a regional airport serving the city of Hof and the Upper Franconia region of northern Bavaria, close to the borders with Saxony and the Czech Republic. Located about 6 km southwest of Hof city centre in the Pirk area, it handles general aviation, business aviation, private charter flights and special operations rather than scheduled passenger services.

Flight operations at the present site began in 1968 after the Aero-Club Hof identified a suitable area near Pirk, with a 720 m asphalt runway. The airport was later expanded with a control tower, operating buildings, hangars and a longer runway, and charter flights were offered from 1972, including tour operator charters from the 1980s onward. Scheduled flights to Frankfurt operated until 2012, when the last scheduled passenger service was discontinued; since 2015 the site has also served as a BMW Group test area alongside regular flight operations.

Today the airport has a single asphalt runway (08/26) of 1,480 m and one compact passenger terminal, together with hangars, aircraft fuelling, a crew lounge and conference facilities. Its size keeps walking distances short and ground handling simple for private and business travellers.

The airport is reached mainly by car, taxi, private transfer or rental car, with the A72 and A93 motorways nearby and Hof's rail station offering onward connections. Plauen lies roughly 40 km to the northeast, making the airport a convenient entry point for the wider Upper Franconia, Saxony and Czech border region.
