Heide-Büsum Airport (HEI)

Heide-Büsum Airport is a small regional airfield serving the North Sea resort of Büsum and the town of Heide in Schleswig-Holstein. Opened in 1970, it links the Dithmarschen region with the North Sea coast and provides a compact air connection to the island of Helgoland.

Located in Oesterdeichstrich between the two towns, the airport sits about 5 km northeast of central Büsum and roughly 12 km southwest of Heide. It has a single lit asphalt runway of 720 metres, suitable for aircraft up to 5,700 kg, and handles general aviation, private flying, sightseeing flights and scheduled OFD flights to Helgoland operated up to four times daily.

Onward travel is straightforward: rental cars and taxis are available at the airfield, while local bus services and the regional rail link between Büsum and Heide provide public transport options, and free bicycles can be borrowed for short local trips. The B203 road offers easy car access to both towns and the wider North Sea coast.

Passenger facilities are deliberately compact and practical, including a bistro with terrace, a waiting room for scheduled-flight passengers, fuel, parking and car rental. The airfield is a popular base for private pilots and visitors heading to the beaches, the Wadden Sea National Park and ferry connections in Büsum.
