About Golosón International Airport
Golosón International Airport is the main airport serving La Ceiba and the surrounding Atlántida region on Honduras' northern Caribbean coast. Located about 10 km west of the city centre, it functions as a gateway for travel to the Bay Islands, Pico Bonito National Park and other coastal destinations.
The airport opened on 4 March 1971 and was remodelled and reopened in 2004. In December 2024 it was officially renamed Guillermo Anderson Avilés International Airport in honour of the La Ceiba-born musician, although it remains widely known as Golosón.
It operates a single passenger terminal of around 3,900 square metres with domestic and international arrival and boarding areas, alongside a runway of about 2,950 metres. The site is also shared with the Héctor C. Moncada Air Base.
The airport is served mainly by regional and domestic airlines, with taxis and car rental available for the short journey into La Ceiba. Its compact terminal makes check-in, arrivals and onward travel relatively straightforward for visitors to the city and the nearby coast.
