Giebelstadt Airport (GHF)

Giebelstadt Airport serves as the only public-use airfield in the Würzburg region, focusing on private, business and charter aviation rather than scheduled airline services. Its role is to provide a fast, flexible gateway for companies, business travelers and general aviation in Mainfranken and northern Bavaria. The site has a long military history: it was used as a Luftwaffe airfield during the Second World War and later operated by the United States Army as Giebelstadt Army Airfield. In February 2001 the airfield opened for private, general aviation use under a joint military-civilian agreement, and after the military closed its operations it continued solely as a civil business airport. Located about 20 kilometres south of Würzburg on the Ochsenfurter Gau plateau, the airport is easy to reach by road via the A3, A7 and A81 motorways, with onward connections to Würzburg, Kitzingen, Ochsenfurt and the surrounding Franconian wine country. Passenger handling is concentrated in a General Aviation Terminal with a lounge, pilot briefing room and customs and border police facilities, supported by fuel services, R-NAV instrument approaches, runway lighting and PAPI guidance.
