Gabès Matmata International Airport serves Gabès and the wider south of Tunisia, providing a small but important air link for business, regional and seasonal travel. The airport supports scheduled connections to Tunis and a limited number of international and seasonal flights.
Originally a military airfield, the airport was opened to civilian traffic in 2008 and is managed by Tunisia's Office of Civil Aviation and Airports. A new international terminal of about 2,000 square metres entered service in August 2015, with an annual capacity of around 200,000 passengers.
The airport is located approximately 25 km from central Gabès, near Nouvelle Matmata. It is reached mainly by road, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars providing onward travel to Gabès, Matmata and other destinations across the region.
Its single passenger terminal keeps arrival and departure procedures compact and straightforward, making the airport a practical entry point for travellers heading to southern Tunisia's desert and coastal areas.
