About Tunis–Carthage International Airport
Tunis–Carthage International Airport is the main international airport serving Tunis and the wider northern Tunisia region. Opened in 1940, it was originally known as Tunis-El Aouina before being renamed after the ancient city of Carthage located east of its runways.
Situated about 8 km northeast of central Tunis, the airport acts as a hub for Tunisair and a base for Nouvelair, connecting the capital to destinations across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. It operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 1 handles most scheduled domestic and international flights, while Terminal 2, opened in 2006, mainly serves charter and seasonal traffic. The airport also has two runways and a co-located military air base.
Transport to the city is available by official white taxi, public bus, private transfer and rental car, while the TGM light rail station at nearby Le Kram provides a further rail connection into central Tunis. The airport's location also places the ruins of Carthage and the coastal village of Sidi Bou Said within a short drive.
