About Dolpa Airport
Dolpa Airport, also known as Juphal Airport, is the only airport in Dolpa District in Karnali Province, far-western Nepal. Located in Juphal at an elevation of about 2,500 m, it serves as the main air gateway to one of Nepal's most remote mountain regions and to Shey Phoksundo National Park.
The airport handles domestic flights, mostly short take-off and landing services connecting Juphal with Nepalgunj. Because of the high altitude and mountain weather, flights generally operate in the early morning. The single runway and small terminal are designed for light aircraft operations.
Dolpa Airport sits about 8 km from Dunai, the district headquarters. Travelers continue by jeep in roughly 45 minutes or on foot in 2-3 hours along the Thuli Bheri valley, as there is no regular bus service. Trekkers use the airport as the starting point for the Upper Dolpo and Lower Dolpo treks and Phoksundo Lake.
Passenger facilities are basic, with a single small terminal, a simple waiting area and no shops or restaurants. Travelers should carry cash and supplies, and allow extra buffer days because weather-related delays and cancellations are common.
