About Daocheng Yading Airport
Daocheng Yading Airport is the main air gateway to Daocheng County, Yading Nature Reserve and the surrounding areas of the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in western Sichuan. Opened on 16 September 2013, it is widely recognized as the world's highest civilian airport at around 4,411 metres above sea level, serving primarily domestic flights.
The airport is located about 50 km north of Daocheng town, near Haizi Mountain, and roughly 130 km from Yading Nature Reserve. It has a single passenger terminal of about 5,000 square metres with three levels, a 4,200-metre runway and two aerobridges, with a design capacity of around 280,000 passengers per year.
Domestic flights connect Daocheng with cities such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Xi'an, Hangzhou and Guangzhou, with most services operating in the morning and a schedule that depends heavily on weather conditions. From the airport, travelers continue to Daocheng town and the Yading scenic area by airport shuttle bus or taxi.
Because of its extreme altitude, the airport provides oxygen and medical facilities for passengers and is best used with care for altitude-related comfort. Despite its remote location, it offers a practical and much faster alternative to long overland journeys for visitors heading to the Yading region.
