About Bitburg Airport
Bitburg Airport serves as the civilian airfield for the town of Bitburg in the Eifel region of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The former military airfield now focuses on general aviation, private flights, skydiving and sightseeing operations rather than scheduled passenger services.
The site began as a NATO air base in the early 1950s and remained in military use until 1994, when it was handed back to German authorities and converted for civilian purposes. Today the compact general aviation terminal, control tower, hangars and surrounding commercial park occupy the former base grounds.
Located about 3 km southeast of Bitburg's centre, the airfield is a short drive from the town and roughly 32 km north of Trier. Access is mainly by car or taxi, with regional bus stops near the airport area and the nearest railway station at Bitburg-Erdorf a few kilometres away.
For visitors, the airfield offers a relaxed general aviation experience, with a restaurant terrace overlooking the runway and easy connections to the Eifel, Moselle and nearby Luxembourg.
