Bielefeld Airport is a regional airfield serving the city of Bielefeld and the wider East Westphalia area in North Rhine-Westphalia. Opened in 1930, the site was inaugurated with the landing of the airship Graf Zeppelin and has since developed into a base for business, private and air sports aviation.
Located about 7 kilometres south of the city centre in the Senne district, the airfield is operated by Flughafen Bielefeld GmbH and is mainly used by regional companies, private pilots and local air sports clubs. Its paved, lighted runway is approximately 1,256 metres long and supports light aircraft, helicopters, gliders and business jets.
The airfield is reached from the A2 motorway at junction 26 (Bielefeld-Süd) via the L756 road, with local bus lines 135 and 36 also serving the area. Taxis and pre-booked private transfers provide onward connections to Bielefeld and surrounding towns.
Facilities include a restaurant, flight schools, hangars and a control tower, supporting both visiting crews and local aviation clubs. Its location close to the city makes it a convenient entry point for business travellers and private flights into the region.
