About Bathpalathang Airport
Bathpalathang Airport is a domestic airport serving Jakar and the Bumthang District in central Bhutan. It opened on 17 December 2011 and is one of only four airports in the country, offering a much faster alternative to the long mountain road journey from Paro.
The airport sits in the relatively wide Chamkhar Chhu valley at an elevation of around 2,600 metres, about three kilometres from Jakar town. It has a single small passenger terminal and one asphalt runway measuring 1,200 metres, suitable for domestic turboprop aircraft operated by Drukair.
Scheduled flights connect Bumthang with Paro and Yongphulla, linking central Bhutan to the country's main international gateway and eastern regions. Flights operate during daylight hours because navigation through Bhutan's mountainous terrain requires clear weather and visibility.
Despite its compact size, the airport offers essential facilities including check-in counters, security screening, a departure lounge and an apron for domestic aircraft. Its valley setting and views of surrounding forests and farmlands make it one of Bhutan's most scenic domestic aviation experiences.
