Baikonur Krayniy Airport (BXY)

Baikonur Krayniy Airport is the main air gateway to the city of Baikonur in southern Kazakhstan and to the Baikonur Cosmodrome, one of the world's most significant space launch sites. The airport sits on the right bank of the Syr Darya river, about six kilometres west of Baikonur.

The facility has a single runway and one compact passenger terminal that handles all arrivals and departures. Until 2008 it operated as a military aerodrome; after gaining civil status it began serving passenger flights, mainly charters to Moscow and occasional flights to other cities in Russia and Kazakhstan.

Because the airport is part of the Baikonur complex leased by Russia from Kazakhstan, access to the city and the airport is controlled. Travelers normally arrange entry permission and transport in advance through a tour operator, employer, or host organization.

Despite its small size and limited commercial traffic, the airport plays an important role in supporting the cosmodrome and the local community by providing a direct air link for crews, specialists, and visitors travelling to the Baikonur region.
