Bahir Dar Dejazmach Belay Zeleke International Airport, commonly known as Bahir Dar Airport (BJR), is the main airport serving Bahir Dar, the capital of Ethiopia's Amhara Region. The public airport sits close to the southern shore of Lake Tana and acts as the region's principal aviation gateway.
The airport operates a single asphalt runway measuring 3,700 metres and a modern passenger terminal that was expanded and inaugurated in 2026. The upgraded terminal is described as Ethiopia's second-largest after Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, with an apron able to accommodate a mix of wide-body and narrow-body aircraft.
Located about 8 km northwest of central Bahir Dar, the airport is reached by road and taxi in roughly 10 to 15 minutes under normal traffic conditions. This short connection makes it convenient for visitors continuing to lakeside hotels, the Blue Nile Falls at Tis Abay and the island monasteries of Lake Tana.
